Hobbits are creatures of earth, but Elijah's determined to conquer the sea. Again and again he assays the waves, trying to learn balance between endless tensile blues—warm above and cold below.
It's hard, but it's harder keeping the warm smile when Orli shows Viggo how to stand on the board. Elijah's gut goes jellyfish-chill when Orli's hand lingers overlong, and Elijah paddles back out.
He wipes out spectacularly, sputtering—is halfway up the beach, board under arm, when Viggo catches him.
"Giving up?"
Viggo's eyes are as warmly blue as the unexpected sea-salt kiss, and Elijah finally catches air.
