First attempt at getting in touch! Peter Jackson emailed me and said that he's keen for the guys playing the hobbits in Lord of the Rings to get to know each other - I guess we're going to be working together for a long time, so it would be good if we'd already got the preliminaries over with. Don't know if you've had the same email, anyway, he passed on your address and that of the two other actors playing hobbits (Sean Astin I know, but haven't heard of you or the other guy - Dominic Monahan or something - sorry!) so I thought I'd get in touch.
Well, I guess you might already know who I am - unless you didn't see Deep Impact (it wasn't that great but Morgan Freeman is so cool). I'm playing Frodo Baggins in Lord of the Rings - it's so exciting. I sent in this home video I'd made for my audition, and Peter hired me! How did you get the part? And have you read the books? I've been trying to read the first one but it's kind of hard going, so I've been skipping to the Frodo parts!
I'm kind of nervous about moving to New Zealand. It's such a long way from home. So actually I think it will be good to have made contact with some of the people I'm going to be working with.
Info here says you're in Scotland! That's awesome! You must have a great accent.

Yes, I do know who you are! I saw Deep Impact and I'm afraid I thought it was a bit lame, although you are right that Morgan Freeman is a cool guy. I love his acting. The Shawshank Redemption is one of my favourite films of all time.
I'll be playing Peregrin Took (Pippin) - maybe you already knew that. I got the part the usual way, through auditions, I tried out for both Merry and Pippin and was offered Pippin in the end. It's a big thing, the biggest thing I've ever done. I can't wait to get started! And yes, I'm reading the book - and you're right about it being hard going, but I'm sticking with it so far.
So tell me more about yourself, since all I know about you is what movies you've been in!
Yes, I live in Glasgow. Scotland is the best country in the world. And I have a Scottish accent, of course!

So you asked me about myself. What can I tell you? I'm pretty average, I guess. I love music and have a truckload of CDs that I'll be taking with me Down Under. So be prepared to listen to lots of music! What kind of music do you like? I also like to DJ and go to see obscure bands that no-one's heard of. I've been so lucky in my life I kind of want to help talented people get the breaks they deserve. Not really sure yet how I'm going to go about this, but it's an idea that floats around in my brain.

I've no idea what Ain't It Cool News is and what photo you've seen of me. I'll try and attach a photo to this message, though with my emailing skills it may not work. It's not a very good picture, so apologies. I look like a bit of a scarecrow as I'd just finished a performing a long set with a band I'm in sometimes, so I'm kind of sweaty and knackered. And I'm a wee bit pissed, as well. The guy behind me isn't my boyfriend by the way, he just likes to touch me like that! Although I think sometimes he wishes...
Lots of CDs, eh? I love music too, although I'm more into performing than listening. I look forward to being educated. And it sounds like a very worthwhile cause, helping talented people get noticed. I wish more people who had a bit of 'clout' (which I suppose you do, being famous and all) did a bit more of that.
So what "useless shit" do you have to do, you Hollywood star you? I know nothing about movie stars' lives, just being an ordinary bloke from Glasgow. None of my mates believe I've been emailing 'that kid from Deep Impact'. Heh.

Wow, cool picture (much better than the other one I've seen - Ain't It Cool News is a website with rumours and news about upcoming movies and stuff. It's awesome). You look like you were having fun in the picture. I must say I wouldn't mind if that guy who's touching you wanted to be *my* boyfriend (god, I think I just came out to you - hope that doesn't freak you out or anything!). Why were you pissed? Don't you like him touching you? And "knackered" is such a cool word. You Brits have such great words.
Useless shit? Yeah. Like, meetings with agents and publicity people. And photo sessions. All kinds of people seem to want to run my life for me. Like, what the fuck? I'm EIGHTEEN, dudes! I can decide this shit for myself. I've been doing this a long time. Hollywood really isn't all that - I kind of avoid it if I can. I'll go see indie movies at the art house theater or hang out with friends somewhere people go just to hang out with their friends and not to be 'seen'.
You know what I've realized? I'll be old enough to drink legally in New Zealand! That's cool. I'll have to buy you a beer! The law's so fucked up here. I'm old enough to help choose the President, but not buy alcohol. What the fuck?
I'm coming across as really bad-tempered today, sorry! I don't get angry just kind of frustrated about stuff. It's really not that big a deal. My mom buys my beer for me, God bless her!
