Sean and Viggo had decided to take the horses out for an early morning run. The horses seemed to love it as much as the two men did. They all seemed to take joy in their early morning exercise together. Neither spoke as the horses clopped along the trail. The sun had risen and cast a soft warm glow across the tall grassy fields. It looked to be a perfect day.
After a run along the beach, they were following a well worn trail when their horses suddenly shied and reared, nearly unseating them. Sean’s horse backed up, craning his head to look at something in the ditch alongside the road.
Quickly bringing their horses under control, Sean and Viggo looked around to see what had spooked the animals. Wolves and mountain lions were quite common here.
"Viggo, com’mer." Sean called, motioning at Viggo to come and see what he was looking at.
Viggo guided his still skittish horse over to Sean's side and looked down. A large bundle lay half hidden in the ditch and scrub on the side of the road.
"What careless fuck dumped their garbage here?"
"I don't know, but if I find out… what the hell..?" Sean started.
"What is it Sean?"
Sean dismounted and approached the bundle carefully. Suddenly he froze, his eyes on the bundle Sean were certain...there, movement.
Viggo's mouth snapped shut on an exclamation as he saw the bundle move and an arm fall from it.
"Oh fuck…" Viggo said, but the arm didn't move again.
Sean went and knelt beside the bundled form and carefully drew away the cloth, revealing an unconscious, badly bruised male face. There was a large bruise on his temple and one on his cheek. His eyes were swollen and as Sean drew the cloth further down, he saw the right arm was bent at an unnatural angle.
"Viggo, he’s still alive… he needs help. We have to get him home." Sean carefully picked the smaller man, still wrapped in the blanket and handed him to Viggo, who had remained on his horse.
Taking the unconscious man from Sean, Viggo waited until Sean had remounted back in his saddle before they started back toward their cabin.
The journey back took twice as long; they took their time being careful not to jostle their unconscious passenger and cause him any more damage.
"Yeah, lucky for all of us, I’d say. I'll settle the horses and be in to join you in a few." Viggo said as he quickly dismounted.
Sean nodded and headed toward the rustic cabin, pushing the door open with his foot before striding toward the large couch in the living room carefully placing the man on the sofa, Sean carefully unwrapped the blanket from the stranger.
"Oh bugger me." Sean groaned as the rest of the man's body was revealed.
"What the hell happened to him?" Viggo asked from behind Sean.
Sean didn't answer and they both looked at the man laid out on the sofa. Their eyes moved down his body taking in the bruises and abrasions on his body and his ripped dirty clothing. It must have been quite a fight. There was a bruise running diagonally from his left shoulder to his waist. There was a deep gash disappearing below his pants. Along with his broken arm he had deep bruises on both his right and left arms right below his wrist.
“Defensive wounds, the lad tried to protect himself” Sean said quietly.
The unconscious man stirred slightly and a moan escaped his lips as Sean’s hand moved toward his ribs.
Viggo watched as Sean lightly pressed his fingers along the unconscious man's ribs.
Sitting back he sighed softly. "I think he has a few cracked ribs and this one," He lightly touched the last rib. "This one is definitely broken."
"We need to get him to the hospital." Viggo said softly
"You know we can’t, we are roughly 100 miles away from the nearest hospital, we have no car, we have no communication and we told our driver not to come back or have anyone disturb us except for a life or death emergency, for three weeks."
Viggo sighed. “But what do we do with him?”
"Well there's only one thing to do, we have to get him cleaned up, bandaged and splinted as best we can."
Sean got the kettle Viggo had put on the stove before joining him in his examination of the unconscious man.
Viggo had gotten the stranger’s pants off and seen that there was less intense bruising on his legs. He also noticed what looked like a tattoo of a snake wrapped around his leg ending just below the man's calf.
Viggo could not help but admire the smaller man’s form. His body was well defined, he had well manicured nails, and his clothing, although filthy and torn, was of high designer quality. He was obviously someone who took care of himself.
Making sure the water was the perfect temperature, Sean reentered the living room.
"Here you go." Sean handed Viggo the cloth and placed the bowl down beside him before going to the hall and coming back with cloths, tapes, and bandages. While Viggo sponged him off, wiping away the grit ingrained in his skin, Sean followed along gently putting ointment and bandages on the scrapes. They splinted his broken arm and bruised wrist. All this time the man never made a sound only releasing a tiny whimper when Sean wrapped his cracked and broken ribs tightly.
Finally it was done and they stood side by side watching him sleep, naked, save for his shorts.
"How long do you think he'll be unconscious?" Sean asked softly.
"I don't know Sean, but I’ll bet he’ll have a hell of a story to tell when he wakes up."
Viggo carefully lifted the man in his arms and took him into the spare room adjacent to theirs. Sean pulled back the covers and Viggo eased him onto the bed and Sean pulled the blanket up until it covered his waist.
They stood looking at him as he slept, almost swallowed by the big bed, his face ashen against the bruises.
"What the hell happened to you?" Viggo mused, eyes moving over his bruised torso.
"Come on, we'll get answers soon enough." Sean put his arm around Viggo and led him out of the room, leaving the door open between the rooms. “Let’s let him rest a while and make some lunch. ‘M hungry.”,lj-cut>
