Title: The Ten Commandments According To Billy Boyd
Pairing: Dom/Billy
Rating: R
Disclaimer: Not mine, never happened.
Summary: Commandment #10: Thou Shall Always Love Thy Cast
Notes: Well, I'm done! Hope it was enjoyed. This is Part B of #10.
Billy moved slowly, and heard the clinking of colliding beer bottles at his feet. He blinked into awareness as he stepped on one and nearly slipped headfirst. The house had fallen into near silence, and Billy could hear Dom singing a show tune loudly while he lay in wait in the bathroom.
He froze in place, and took a detour to sit on the couch, absorbing every detail of every second of what was happening around him. He took deep breaths as he used his hands to propel himself off the cushions that threatened to suck him in.
With every step feeling like an era of its own, Billy made his way into the bathroom, his hands fidgeting with the hem of the wrinkled shirt. He received a beaming grin from Dom, who was standing in the shower, about to turn the running water into a spray.
“About time!” Dom remarked, hanging on the curtain. “They give you trouble?” Dom turned to the water and ran his fingers through the running current.
Billy leaned against the counter, and played with the taps of the sink for a second while Dom eyed him suspiciously. He blinked as he stepped out of the tub and began to play with Billy’s fingers atop the shirt. Billy flinched a little from the touch and looked down, his eyes burning with a low fire.
“Billy?” Dom sounded worried now. Billy slowly drifted from the touch and escaped Dom’s fingers as he looked into the man’s eyes; tired as ever. “What happened, what’s wrong?”
“You said nothing happened,” Billy spoke with disappointment.
“When?”
“With Orlando,” Billy delivered the crushing blow and slipped out of the bathroom and back into the living room, falling onto the sofa with a soft ‘thud’. Minutes later, a fully dressed Dom came rushing out of the hall, looking concerned.
Dom stared at Billy, seeing that he knew everything and his posture slumped a little as he leaned against the wall. He opened his mouth a few times, about to say something. He thought better of it.
“I didn’t think,” Dom finally spoke, turning his head to the side so that he wouldn’t have to look Billy in the eyes when he spoke. Billy tilted his head to look at him and wondered briefly if perhaps he did deserve it. After all, the incident with Elijah didn’t get to be erased just because Dom and Orlando had followed their lead. “Look…we weren’t sure. You had slept with Elijah.”
“I did,” Billy nodded.
“God, mate…Elijah! If anyone had gotten to sleep with him, it should’ve been me!” Dom sounded outraged for a moment before he got his emotions under control. “And it was an accident at first. Orlando’s hand brushed against me. We looked at each other and…”
“And you didn’t think,” Billy finished, his hands clasped together and tightening as the thoughts threatened to burn into his brain.
“Yeah,” Dom winced, sitting down in a stool by the counter. Billy didn’t know exactly what emotion was passing through him but he couldn’t help but understand the comedy of errors they had fallen into.
Billy let the history of their relationship play in his mind, and noted how many times they had hit stumbles. For all they had gone through, Billy was surprised that Dom was still speaking to him. When none of it made any sense, he quickly replayed the commandments in his head, mouthing every other one to find some meaning to the tragic farce of their lives.
He finally fell upon the last one – his last commandment – and let it replay in his head. It went over and over again in several different voices. Some of them were his own, some were the patient, all-knowing voices of the cast, and the last one, of course, rang out in Dom’s accent.
Ironic bastard, fate was.
“Was it to get even with me?” Billy spoke unsurely.
“No,” Dom swore quickly.
“Because I could understand,” the Scot was sorting everything out slowly now; his speech was halting and doubtful, “if it was. After what I did…I wouldn’t blame you at all.”
“It just happened!” Dom’s eyes went wide as he swore.
Billy watched the wild look on Dom’s face and knew that the conversation could slip out of their control and wind up in a wild place that lacked any logic, or common sense. Perhaps it was because Billy’s mind was having a good day, but he wanted to sort everything out with a clear head – right that instant.
“You lied,” Billy spoke.
“I did.”
“But then you didn’t go through with the…” Billy coughed, his face flushing a little at the memory, “deed with the leather.”
“No,” Dom agreed.
Billy tapped his fingers on the arm of the sofa in a sort of tune that accompanied the thinking that his mind was currently going to great lengths to perform. He listened to the echoing buzz of his brain reminding him about the last commandment, and mentally, he added a little something to it.
“What you said the other day Dom…about pushing this further?”
“Yeah?”
“Did you still want to, or do you want to leave me now and never look back?” Billy locked eyes with him and the two shared the first bit of eye contact since the conversation had first begun. Dom blinked, deep in thought, and lowered his head.
“You want to?”
“I do,” Billy nodded.
Dom didn’t need any further words. He quickly rushed from his place on the stool to Billy’s side – as though he were a flash of a camera – and wrapped his arms around the man. He clutched onto Billy tightly, as though fearing that the older actor would try and run. Billy held Dom there, feeling the younger man’s body shake a little.
He couldn’t tell whether it was fear, anxiety, or relief.
“Thank you Billy,” the words were whispered in his ear as Dom’s arms tightened their grasp around Billy and held him there tightly.
Smiling, Billy reminded himself of the addendum to his tenth commandment and made a note to commit it to paper upon the first opportunity. It wasn’t a big change, just something that would make his life easier.
Thou Shall Always Love Thy Cast: it was. For better or worse, he added to it.
Especially some people, he thought.
