"Getting ready for your date?"

"Dom?" Dom whirled around, raising a brow as Orlando approached. He shot his friend a smile and received a weak, terse one back.

"It's not a date, Billy." Dom insists, mussing his hair into another way for the umpteenth time. He turns, extending his arms out wide to allow Billy to look him over completely. "Do I look alright?"

Billy rolls his eyes, snickering. "Not a date, eh?"

"You seem distracted today." He sipped the warm coffee in his hands, his eyes never leaving Orlando's. Orli's eyes shifted all over the place, he noticed, and it was hard to hold a gaze. "Anything wrong?"

"I was wondering." He looked Dom in the eyes then and he found quickly he couldn't read the expression he was receiving. "Are you busy tonight?"

"You can laugh all you want," Dom says, irritable. "This isn't anything." He fixes his collar once more, and then again when he doesn't find it satisfactory.

"Then why are you fidgeting? And messing with your hair? And fuck, you're going to make your nails as bad as Elijah's soon." Billy follows him out into his bedroom. Dom stops short when Billy mentions his hair, his hands instantly moving upward to inspect.

"What did I do to my hair?!" he exclaims and holds his breath a second as he hears himself. "I mean..." Billy is giving him an even more amused look. Dom sighs. "God, I hate you." He ends up chewing on his index finger's nail before he can stop himself.

"I don't think so." He shook his head. "I think Elijah's finally shook off Astin for a night. Doesn't need me to get him drinks."

Orlando gave a laugh, though it sounded forced and tight. Dom stared at him oddly, continuing to have the gut feeling something was up. He put down his coffee on the table behind him before turning back and folding his arms against his chest, careful not to mess his costume. "Right. Good. I was wondering..." He trailed off and then completely stopped, leaving Dom wait until he realized Orlando wasn't intending to start any time soon.

"Yes?" Dom tapped his foot, acting like he was impatient. Really, he was, because he was starting to quickly feel some kind of strange tension he had never noticed until then.

"Where are you guys going on your non-date?" Billy asks, sounding more amused than ever. Dom takes it upon himself to shoot Billy a hard glared.

"I don't appreciate your sarcasm." He huffs, and tries to stop pacing. Tries to stop feeling like he was going to puke, too. "And we're just going to a pub."

"Getting drunk first, huh?" Billy mumbles lowly, though it isn't low enough for Dom not to hear him. Dom just sighs this time, looking at Billy with disapproval.

"I heard that." Dom points out and Billy just smiles pleasantly. If Dom isn't so preoccupied by the drumming of his heart, he might be more upset. "Anyway, blokes don't date."

"I was wondering if you want to go out. With me." Orli looked down at his feet. If Dom hadn't been completely confused before at how Orlando was acting, he definitely was then.

"Is that all? Here I was thinking you were going to ask me something important or shocking." Dom realized he should have felt relieved but he still had a feeling there was more to what his friend was saying, though he had no clue what the 'more' was. "So, yeah, I'd love to go out. Maybe we should invite Bills and..."

"Actually," Orlando interrupted, "I didn't mean it like that...I mean..." He sighed, turning away. "Never mind, alright? Yeah, invite whoever you want." Dom blinked, surprised at the sudden expression of disappointment gracing his fair features. He took a step forward, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Orli, mate, what's wrong?" He hoped repeating the question would give him an answer he wanted instead of Orli avoiding it. Orli ventured a look at the hand on his shoulder and took a breath.

"Car's pulling up." Billy hollers to Dom, peering out the window. Dom feels his heart stop and leap up into his throat momentarily. He can't find the will to start moving. It feels like his legs are malfunctioning, Dom decides, and he manages to force them to work after a few seconds of struggle. "And I'll be leaving." Billy says, and smiles and pats Dom on the shoulder as if to silently say, 'Good luck'.

Billy leaves as Orlando walks up the driveway. He is dressed in clothes that are surprisingly monochrome instead of the wild and colorful types he usually wears. Dom tries not to think about how handsome he looks either way, colorful or non, or how he is suddenly very much feeling like he is going on a date like Billy had teased and a possible good one too.

"Ready?" Orli asks and delivers the most awkward peck on the cheek Dom had ever received before stuffing his thin hands into his pockets, not looking as though he knows what to do with them. Dom cannot help but feel a bit tingly and even a little giddy over it though and he cannot push the feelings back fast enough to ignore them.

"Of course." Dom answers as he fights to be the picture of calm. He even tries to imagine all the yoga lessons he has followed, reminding himself to be centered. His center flies out the window when Orli's hand brushes against his as they walk to his car.

Orli blasts the music as they go. Dom is grateful for this as it is an excellent way to ignore the thoughts flying through his head. He gives quick glances toward his friend a few times, each time studying him just a little bit more, pausing at the best of his features. Orli only catches him staring once, and Dom doesn't look away when it happens. Instead, he smiles, and Orli smiles back, and suddenly Dom realizes he's not feeling so awkward anymore.

"I've heard that you're..." Orli trailed off again, looking at Dom guiltily. It took Dom a second to understand what he was trying to say, and when he did his mouth formed an 'o', signaling understanding. At the same time, though, it didn't make sense. Dom had no idea why it would matter to him at all.

"Yeah, that's right." He nodded, feeling just a tad bit uncomfortable. "Why?" Dom hadn't ever taken Orlando to be someone to judge on choice of sexual preference. He never seemed uncomfortable about it any other time, and he had probably known about Dom as for months - just as long as everyone else had.

"That's why." He explained, being cryptic without meaning to be. Dom blinked to show he wasn't following, and Orli sighed in exasperation. "Look, I want to go out with you. Just you. Because of that."

It took Dom a second to register what he was hearing and comprehend. When he did, his eyes widened considerably and he felt his skin flush a little red. "You want to...what, go on a date?"

"No, not a date." Orlando shook his head quickly. "More like a...you know, a try-out. Just to see. I mean, you don't have to. I just thought..."

"What time will you pick me up, then?" Dom asked, stopping Orli from rambling further. Orlando's head snapped up in surprise, brown eyes widening. A moment later, a smile formed on his lips.

Orli apparently wasn't going to a pub. Dom looks around, unsure of why they had stopped in the middle of nowhere. Orli walks up to stand beside him and smiles when Dom gives him a confused look. Without a word he motions Dom to follow, and they traipse through the high grass and into the trees. It is pitch dark and Dom holds onto Orli's sleeve and stays close to his side in an attempt not to lose him. Soon enough, though, they are out and Dom finds himself standing in front of a larger pond in a clearing.

The pond, however, has what seems like millions of tiny lights flying over it. It takes Dom a second to realize that the little lights are fireflies. He stares in amazement as they fly over and around the pond and around them too, lighting up the area far more than any flashlight could. The pond itself reflexes the lights above it and seems to glow as green as they are.

"I come here all the time." Orli says, his voice low for no apparent reason. "I wanted to show you." Dom is speechless as he watches as a few of the bugs flutter past his face and he opens his hand. One of them floats into his palm and stays there a moment before a slight twitch in his wrist causes the light to fly off. "I know you like nature."

"This is amazing." Dom says, though he doesn't think the description gives the place any justice at all. He turns to Orlando, feeling completely and utterly overwhelmed. "I can't believe you showed this to me." Orli just smiles, his face lit up by the green glow surrounding him, and Dom can think of nothing else to do but kiss him. Two seconds later, that is exactly what he does. He leans up and cups Orlando's cheeks softly and kisses him. It's mere brushing of the lips at first before it slowly deepens, and Orlando pulls him against his own body gently, arms wrapped loosely around Dom's torso.

When they break apart, Dom stares up at him, feeling dizzy and euphoric and completely at peace. "This is one hell of a first date." He finally whispers when he gains his senses back enough to put together a coherent sentence.

"I told you." Orli says, suddenly grinning. "This isn't a date. This was the try-out. Wait until you see the real first date." Dom laughs, thinking that if the "try-out" was any indication, there was a lot more than one date in store for them. Dom can't help but be excited already.
