rpschallenge's "first date" challenge.
“This is kind of stupid.” Dom looked around the restaurant Billy and he had eaten at a hundred times before, wondering why he had to choose that particular one.
“No, it’s not.”
“Billy, we eat here all the time.”
“But this time it’s a date, not just two mates going out to grab a bite to eat.”
“I still think it’s stupid.” Dom leaned back in the chair and crossed his arms over his chest. Billy leaned forward, grabbed Dom’s arm, and pulled him forward.
“Dominic, I wanted our first date to be nice. That’s why I made you get semi-dressed up. Now quit complaining. You’re with me.” Billy leaned back and picked up his menu. Dom followed suit.
“Whatever you say, William.”
Dom was disappointed to realize dinner felt nothing like a date. It was just Billy and him chatting, drinking, and eating. There was no romantic feel to it, no underlying sexual tension – nothing. And it really irritated Dom. He wanted to be nervous; he wanted to have butterflies in his stomach like he did when he took girls on dates when he was sixteen. He didn’t want everything to feel like it had every day up until this point.
All of Dom’s frustration over their so-called date was the reason he was half-drunk as Billy and he walked along the moonlit beach later that night. Billy was kicking stones and shells along with his toes, shoes and socks in hand, and Dom was watching the waves glide over his feet in amazement.
“The water’s cold tonight,” Billy said as it rose up to his ankles. Dom splashed around, getting both his and Billy’s pants damp. “Having fun, Dom?”
“Loads.” Dom took off running up the beach. Billy watched as he splashed through the incoming tide like a child. He started twirling – one moment spinning around in wobbly circles, arms outstretched, the next on his ass in six inches of water. Billy ran towards him and looked down into his frustrated face. “I got my trousers wet.”
“That you did, mate.” Billy plopped down beside him in the water, tossing his shoes onto the shore somewhere behind them. “Look at that. Mine are wet, too.”
Dom grinned broadly at Billy, who was now sitting eye level with him. “You sat down in the water.”
“I believe I tripped. Clumsy me.” Billy started patting the water with his hands. Dom joined and soon they were slinging water freely at each other. “Look what we did.”
Both men were covered in water. Billy shrugged, unbuttoned his shirt, and slipped it off his shoulders. As he threw it behind him, he leaned back and removed his trousers, leaving him in nothing but his thin boxers. Dom stared at him in disbelief, mouth slightly ajar. Billy looked expectantly at him. “Well, what are you waiting for?”
“Huh?”
“Take off your wet clothes.” Dom gaped at him in shock. “You can’t tell me you’re shy. I’ve seen you in your boxers plenty of times before.” Billy nudged Dom in the arm and crawled further into the ocean, shivering slightly. “Dom, you can sit there like a deer caught in the headlights or you can get undressed and join me in the ocean. The choice is yours.”
Dom sat thinking for a few moments. He didn’t know if it was the alcohol or Billy, but he finally felt it – the butterflies in his stomach. He stood up, clumsily pulling off his shirt and pants, then ran into the water, breaking into a swim to reach Billy faster.
“Decided to join me then?” Billy asked, laughing. He made to swim out further, but Dom grabbed his arm and pulled him into a kiss. Billy’s mouth met Dom’s hungrily, his tongue immediately searching for Dom’s. Billy tasted like the ocean, and Dom found it highly enticing. He pushed his way deeper into Billy’s mouth, digging fingers into Billy’s sandy, wet hair. Small waves crashed against their entangled bodies, but neither seemed to notice. Their entire attention was focused solely on their first kiss.
They pulled apart, breathing heavily. Billy slid his hands across Dom’s wet shoulders and down his arms, watching each water droplet reflect the moon before he wiped it with his thumb. Dom circled his arms around Billy’s waist underneath the surface of the water, pulling him close.
“This is much better than dinner,” Dom said, kissing Billy’s cheek. He licked along his ear, tasting the salt on his tongue.
“What was wrong with dinner?” Billy asked, pulling away and searching Dom’s face. Dom noticed he looked slightly offended.
“Nothing,” Dom reassured him, kissing him on the lips again. “It just didn’t feel much like a date. This,” Dom indicated their surroundings, “feels like a date.”
“What’s the difference?” Billy asked, running his hands freely through Dom’s sandy hair.
“Dinner was normal. It could have easily been Elijah or Orlando I was eating with.”
“Thanks. I feel special.” Dom kissed Billy’s pouty mouth again.
“I didn’t mean it in a bad way. It was just like we had grabbed a bite to eat after shooting. But this…” Dom trailed off, glancing away from Billy. Billy gently took Dom’s chin between his thumb and forefinger, turning his face towards him.
“This what, Dom?” Billy asked softly, looking at him intently.
“This makes me nervous. Gives me butterflies like I’m fifteen again. Makes me feel all giddy inside.” Dom smiled sheepishly, and Billy could tell even in the moonlight that he was blushing.
“Good. I feel exactly the same way.” Billy leaned in and captured Dom’s lips with his own. Billy’s mouth traveled freely over his face and neck, making Dom extremely weak in the knees. Billy took Dom’s hand into his own, intertwining their fingers. “Let’s get back to shore. The tide’s coming in kind of quickly now.”
They walked out of the water hand in hand and trying to put on the wet and sandy trousers was a little difficult for both of them.
“These things are so bloody cold!” Dom complained. Billy just laughed and folded his shirt over his arm.
“We’ll have to go warm up then, huh?” Billy took Dom’s hand and they headed towards the road, Dom humming as they walked along. “Whatcha humming?”
“Just some song my mum used to listen to when I was growing up.”
“Well, what?”
“Nothing.”
“Dom!” Billy pinched Dom’s bare chest playfully.
“Hey! That’s not nice.”
“What song are you humming? Won’t you sing it for me?” Billy mocked.
“You asked for it.” Dom started running ahead of him, singing at the top of his lungs, “Bill! I love you so, I always will. I look at you and see the passion eyes of May.” He turned around and looked at Billy, smirking.
“You cheeky bastard, I’m going to get you!” Billy yelled, laughing as he ran after Dom, who could be heard singing, “Am I ever gonna see my wedding day?” Billy caught up with him, grabbing him around the middle.
“Gotcha!” Billy loosened his grip around Dom and grabbed his hand again. They easily fell back into step towards the road. “What song?”
“’Wedding Bell Blues’ by The Fifth Dimension. Sixties song. My mom had the record.”
“She has good taste,” Billy teased.
“Bill! I love you so, I always will…” Dom started singing again softly. Billy stopped and spun Dom around to face him.
“I love you, too,” Billy said seriously. Dom smiled widely and wrapped Billy in another kiss.
