Of course, it just had to be the four of them in that fucked-up house - Orli, Elijah, Dom, and Billy - all feeling devious, slightly drunk, and just a bit out of their minds. And naturally, it had to be Dom who suggested getting out that fucking Ouija board, laughing hysterically over the entire idea - "Hey guys! Let's see if this fucking thing'll work!" And naturally, they all just had to agree with it - who ever heard of listening to DOM? But in any case, that's how they ended up, the four of them sitting in the center of the living room, candles glowing ominiously while they took turns asking pointless questions to a fucking board game. It only took a few more turns before Elijah got one of those cases of heebie-jeebies, and scurried off to bed, followed by friendly jeers and insults by the others. Nevertheless, the other three continued their playing, until Orli freaked just a litle too much.
“Your eyes give you away!?!” Dom said sarcastically. "Now what in bloody hell’s that supposed to mean?”

“Dunno, mate. But I wrote it down, see?" Orli said, waving the scrap of paper in front of Dom's nose, then proceeded to sound out the consonants. "YR II GV U E-WAA. What else could it mean?”

“No, I get it. But what does it mean?”

“’Hell should I know, man?" Orli muttered, staring at the paper confusedly.

“Sounds like a message more meant for Lijah than the lot of us.” Billy spoke up, causing a groan of disgust from Dom.

“Bills don’t mention Elijah, please." Orli said. "You know this stuff freaks him out. He specifically asked you not to bring this board here and you did anyway.”

“Sorry, sorry." Billy snapped suddenly, patience finally lost. "I thought it would just be a bit of fun, you know? Dark stormy night. House on a cliff overlooking the sea in Middle of Nowhere, Cornwall and all that…”

“Yeah. How’d we know he’d get all pissy and fuck off to bed?” Dom inwardly cringed as another streak of lightening flashed by the living room window.

“He didn’t get pissy, Dominic. He’s freaked. Couldn’t you just respect that? All these changes at once have been a lot for him to absorb. Moving here, with me…” He paused, played with his hair, and grinned. Dom rolled his eyes and threw himself onto the couch in a disgusted fashion.

“Ok, so...why are you here playing, then?”

“I’m not playing—I’m here keeping an eye on you two. Lij said that the more people you have with their hands on this stupid fucking thing," Orlando shoved the board across the floor, causing the counter to skid off the top and land cock-eyed on the hardwood floor. " - the less harm it can do.”

“Emphasis on yours, I’m assuming, Orli?” Billy said sarcastically, quirking an eyebrow.

“I’ll show you emphasis, you skirt wearing, entrail eating…”
"Calm down before you kill him," Dom interjected hastily. "We just have to keep our heads right. You didn't mean anything by that, right Bills?"

“I just thought these things would tell you, like, who you’d marry or what colour car to buy. Yes or no stuff, stupid stuff. Like a Magic 8 ball, or something. Sorry Orli, truly, I am.”

“Ya, Billy, I just bet. You two probably have some big joke planned. Well, Ha! Ha!”
"Bloom, you're out of it. It's late, you haven't slept. Go to bed and sleep it off, huh?!"
"I'm fine, BIlly. I'm not fucking tired, and I'm not goin to bed!" Orlando stomped off to sulk in a corner (as usual), and Dom casually glanced out the window. He did a double take.

“Uh…Orlando?”

“Yeah, Dom?”

“Lijah sleepwalks, does he?” The panic in his voice rose another notch.

“No...In fact in the two weeks we’ve been here he’s hardly slept at all. Says he can’t get used to the quiet. Or that the house makes too much noise, or something…Why?”

“If he’s not sleepwalking he has a really weird idea of fine weather for a stroll…” Dom went to the curtain and threw it open. A flash of lightning revealed - the outline of a small figure making its way towards the open water.

“Jesus!" Orlando jumped up and grabbed his coat. "You two stay here. And put that fucking thing away! He’s heading right to the sea!” he screamed, kicking the Ouija board out of the middle of the room, candles extinguishing themselves as they scattered.

“Elijah!” Orli's voice caught on the wind and turned into a howl, screaming up and away. Elijah took no notice and continued walking purposefully towards the water, sand coating the bare feet and bottom half of his jeans.

“C’mon Lij. It’s me. It’s your Orli.” He grabbed him around his shoulder and turn him towards himself. Instead of him waking or showing a sign of recognition, however, Elijah just kept staring, and...his eyes were...green? He smiled suddenly, and when he spoke, it sounded almost...otherworldly...

”your eyes give you away”

Orlando took an automatic step backwards. “What? Elijah!!!” Elijah smiled and dove into the water. Orlando ran after him, feeling the surf chill his legs to the bone, pointlessly calling out his name to the sea.

* * * *

“Jesus! What the hell happened?” Dom gasped, jumping up as the pair of them came in, Elijah being supported by Orlando before being set gently down on the couch.

“Dunno. He said…something…and then down he went. He’s soaked. Bills go get some blankets outta the cupboard, yeah?" Orli swallowed, then bent over him again. “You’re gonna be ok, babes. You’re gonna be ok." He looked up, fear shining silently in his eyes. "I can’t wake him up, Dom. He just won't wake up.”

“What are we gonna do, Orli?” Dom managed, as Billy hurried back with the blankets and started to cover him with a couple.

“I dunno, it’s pissing down with rain, there’s no way even in my jeep that we can get to the high street right now on that goat path the locals like to call a road. Phones are out, we tried those earlier. Power’s out, and I don’t want to move him. Thanks, Billy.” He said carelessly. Billy frowned, then felt Elijah's forehead and hands.

“He’s burnin’ up w’fever, Orlando.” He said anxiously, forgiving Orli for his rudeness for the moment. Dom jumped up to get more candles, while Orlando held Elijah's hand again, lacing their fingers together.

“Hang in there, Doodle. Orli’s here.” Elijah mumbled something faintly for a moment, then was still again. Billy and Orlando looked at each other.

“What’s he mumblin’?”

“Dunno. Doesn’t sound like English.” Billy managed, frowning, as Dom came back into the room with three lit candles. He set them down, then leaned over to open the window, muttering something about there not being enough air moving in the room.

“I thought I told you two to Put. That. Fucking. Thing. Away!” Orli hissed, motion violently to the game still lying scattered on the floor. Dom bristled.

“Christ, Orli. I was openin’ the window for Lij, the fucking thing must be in a thousand pieces.” He bent to straighten it when when -

Orli?

Orlando jumped and moved back to Elijah, Dom and Billy hovering concernedly in the background. “I’m right here, babes.”

My head hurts...

“Shhhh…lie back. Are you thirsty? Here...” Billy passed Orli a glass of water, which Elijah drank gratefully before falling back onto the couch.

I had the weirdest dreams…

“Don’t’ try and talk right now, Lijah.”

K. M’sleep

“That’s right, babes. You sleep. You two as well. It’s late and we’re all kinda freaked. I’ll stay here with Elijah and in the morning, we’ll take him to the Doc’s, yeah?”

“You sure, Orli?” Billy said cautiously. "If you want, we could stay up and - "

“Yes.” He gave the pair of them a glare. "I think I know how to take care of him."

They looked at each other before backing away simultaniously, palms raised. “Right then, no need to go all Elf Prince on us, man.”

* * * *
Dom came downstairs the next morning, neither of them actually getting any sleep at all that night. From the looks of things, neither had Orlando, as he was dozing slightly in his chair. As Dom sat down next to him, his eyes opened, and he rubbed at them blearily.
"Rough night?"
Orli nodded, yawned, and looked down at Elijah again. He didn't say anything.

“How’s Lijah? At least the rain’s stopped. How’re the roads? Oh…you’ve got your jeep anyways.”

“Dunno. Can’t tell. He slept, sorta fitful, like. Kept up with the mumbling. Been staring at ‘im for hours, haven’t looked at the roads yet. Shhh…Jesus, Dom, Elijah's still sleeping.”

“Sorry, sorry. Um, Orli?”

“Yeah?”

“Billy…Billy found…something.” Orli looked over at him, and it was enough to make Dom cringe.

“What the fuck are you on about, mate?”

“In…in your bedroom. When he was looking for blankets, last night.” He held up a small green plant, old, decaying, and throughly disgusting.

“The fuck is that? A bunch of weeds?" He grabbed them out of Dom's hand, then promptly dropped them, feeling his now bruised fingers. "Ouch…piece of shit has thorns!”

“It’s a…the Cornish are really superstitious Orli…they call it an..an ill omen.”

“Wha…”

“Someone means you harm, Orli. You, or Lijah. Or the both of you. It’s a charm, like. But, to bring bad luck. It was under Lij’s pillow, and when Bills went to pull the duvet off your bed…”

“Surely you don’t believe in that bullocks?” Orlando said, now completely skeptical over the entire suituation. Dom shifted nervously and continued.

“Not really, Orli. But you saw--last night. And how did this get in your bed? Something fucked up is going on here…”
Before Orlando had a chance to respond, Billy came downstairs, holding a small wooden box and looking half scared, half relieved.

“D’you tell him about the charm, Dommie? I found this too, Orlando. Did you give it to Elijah?”

Orlando snorted and grabbed the box out of his hands and examined it. “Does Lij look like a 7 year old girl to you Billy? I know I’m a bit spacey, but a jewelry box isn’t a gift I’d give.”

Dom came up to his side and looked at it. The varnish was cracked and peeling, the decorations on the lid barely recognizable from it. “Shit, it looks really old, doesn’t it Billy?”

“Yeah. It was under your bed, Orlando.” Billy nodded. Orlando rolled his eyes impatiently.

“You’re making this shit up.” He threw the lid open, revealing worn green velvet, pulling away from the sides with age. There was a pause as the three of them looked at it, then...music started playing inside the box. He dropped the box to the floor, where it landed on its side, a morose tune with an absurdly cheery disposition tinkling out. “Fuck! Scared the shit outta me! It’s a music box. You wind it Bills?”

Billy looked at him blankly, then...shook his head. “No.”
The three of them looked at each other...then at the box.

And your eyes give you away…A voice, clear and unearthly sweet, rang out, singing the rest of the song before laying back and shutting his eyes again. Orli spun around and shook Elijah's shoulder hurriedly, who stirred and rubbed at his eyes a little. Dom picked up the music box and held it as far away from himself as possible before passing it to Orlando, who held it up for Elijah to hear again.

“Hey, Doodle. You know this song?” It continued to play, tuneless and tuneful at once. Elijah's eyebrows knitted together in vague concentration, and Billy and Dom looked at each other again.

I…what?…no…I don’t know…I’m confused Orli. My head hurts. I’m scared. He sniffed and curled up again, and the others instantly rushed forward before Orlando could push any more.

“Don’t cry, Elijah. It’s alright. Everything’s gonna be alright.”

“C’mon along with ol’ Dominic, here, Lij…let’s go back into the lounge. I think Clone Wars is on soon,” He helped pull him up and ushered him out, chattering away happily and glancing back surreptitiously once or twice. The door slid shut, and Orlando let out a breath he didn't know he was holding, sitting gingerly on the edge of the couch. Billy paced a little, throwing nervous glances towards the music box still playing in the center of the room.

“Fuck, Billy. What am I going to do?”

Billy snorted. "What else? Get him the hell out of here. Don’t take him to Casualty, just take him back to London. I don’t know what’s going on, but it’s affecting him.”
He nodded. "Maybe...if I knew that he'd be safe again...I just don't like - "

“Orlando! Billy!” Dom crashed through the door and pulled him to his feet, wrestling him back into the other room. Elijah was on the floor, eyes rolled into the back of his head, and thrashing, his breath coming in short shuddery gasps.
“Jesus!”

“He just started. I don’t know…” Dom stumbled, eyes wide with concern. Billy wrapped an arm around him and pressed a hurried kiss to his temple, grabbing the phone.
"Still not fucking working!" he called out, slamming the reciever down. Elijah calmed suddenly, his breathing returning to normal and easing up. Orlando watched him for a minute, shushing his worried cries.

“Lijah, shhh. Shhh…it’s ok.. It’s alright. Close your eyes. Go to sleep. I’m here, babes. I’m here." He nodded, then slumped back, exhausted, eyes fluttering shut. Orlando sighed, looking up at Dom and Billy. "Ok. We’re outta here. Now. He’s having fucking seizures and 24 hours ago there wasn’t a thing wrong with him.”

“You’re leaving? Now? Like that?" Orlando ignored him and went to the bedroom, throwing their clothes into bags, Dom trailing at his heels the entire time. "Where are you going? Elijah’s in his knickers for God’s sake.”

“Dominic, do you have a better plan? I am not letting Elijah stay here one more minute." He paused in the living room, staring down with disgust at the plant and still tinkling music box. "Billy, get rid of those things.” He nodded silently and took them outside. A small crashing sound was just heard over the howl of the wind.

“D’ya need help getting him to the car?” Dom said, unconsciously sucking at the pad of his thumb anxiously.

“No, he’s not heavy at all. Just wind the blanket round his feet, yeah? Don’t need to trip." He picked him up deftly and went outside, laying him gently in the backseat of his car. We’ll go to London, to my flat. You two can follow.”

“Careful, Orlando.”

“Of course, always. I’ll meet you back at my flat." He got in the car and started the engine, before pausing, and rolling down the window. He leaned out and screamed, "Do us a favour, would ya Bills? Ring the estate agents for me. Dream fucking house--my arse!” Orlando kicked the car into 'Drive' and sped out, stones spitting out from underneath the rapidly spinning tires.

I like the fleshing out of the dialogue. it worked well.

Dom stumbled, eyes wide with concern. Billy wrapped an arm around him and pressed a hurried kiss to his temple.

Orlando held Elijah's hand again, lacing their fingers together.
