Sequel to Love works in funny ways
Dom stared blankly at the door, unable to stutter a word. Billy had left, distraught to tears and he knew it was all his fault. In the background he heard Elijah trying to gather the courage to speak.
"Dom, I am...so sorry."
Dom was still in a state of shock. He was looking at the door with hunched shoulders, tears beginning to fill his eyes. He walked out of the bathroom without a word to Elijah and to the kitchen where the abandoned food sit on the table. This sent him over the top and the tears fell down his cheeks. He saw the bottle of gin by the refrigerator and a sudden anger rose up inside of him. That was the reason for his behavior. That very bottle. A couple chugs and he had lost all sense of what was right and was kissing Elijah, breaking his dearest Billys heart. He picked up the bottle and threw it into the trash as hard as he could, hearing the tinkling of broken glass. He heard a shuffling behind him and saw a guilty-looking Elijah.
"Dom, I am so sorry, honestly. I am."
Dom looked up with tear-stained face, "I know you are Elijah. I don't blame you. It was my fault for drinking that damn gin. Dammit!"
He turned to his left and his fist collided with the wall, leaving a dent in it, resolving himself to shamless sobbing. Elijah stood, dumbfounded, not sure of what to do.
"Dom, maybe you should go talk to him."
"I know I should, hes probably so hurt right now. I don't think I could bring myself to face him and see the pain I've caused. He deserves so much better."
Elijah walked over to him and stared him in the face.
"Do you love him Dom?"
"With all my heart," Dom sighed.
"Then go work it out, you can't throw this away. This is my fault for even siggesting a drink so you have no one to blame but me. Go, please go and talk to him because if this doesn't get resolved, I'll never forgive myself."
Dom ran his hand through his slightly damp hair, letting it fall back perfectly into place.
"Thanks Elijah. I am sorry for all this. I'll explain all this to Billy and I'm not letting you take the blame for this. I can't let him hate you." He said, giving him a breif hug.
He scooped up his keys from a the near-by coffee table and was out the door
*******
Billy took in a deep breath, trying to calm himself. The feeling of nausea swept over him and he ran to the bathroom, threatening to overwhelm him but making it just in time. He stood up, already weak from the depression that had encompassed him. He looked into the mirror and didnt recognize the man looking back. Puffy eyed and sad, he knew his life would never be the same. Dom was like his second half. They finished each others sentences, they knew what each other were thinking. They had, on many occasions, proclaimed their love for each other and now, what was there to account for it? A void was left inside him that nothing or no one could fill. His sadness turned to anger as every memory of Dom turned his insides sour and made his stomach flip over and he felt betrayed. He walked into their bedroom and yanked out a duffel bag from the depths of his closet and threw it on his bed.
He went threw a couple of his drawers, pulling out the necessary socks and undergarments. His attention was turned to his closet were he removed several pairs of slacks and jeans and shirts along with them. He stopped suddenly when he heard the turn of the lock and the sound of the door silently opening and closing and he stood transfixed to the spot. He could feel Dom's presence at the door but he paid no attention to him.
"Billy," He said.
Billy kept neatly folding his clothes away into the bag.
"Billy, what are you doing?"
Billy tried to remain calm and not unleash his anger.
"Bill, I'm talking to you."
Billy turned around and snapped, "What the hell does it look like I'm doing, Dominic?"
Doms heart fell a little lower. Billy never called him by his full name, ever.
"Billy, please don't do this. Please." He begged.
Billy walked out of the room and towards the bathroom to gather the rest of his stuff, Dom not far behind.
"Why shouldn't I? It looks like thats what you wanted! I obviously don't do it for ya." Billy said in a very sarcastic tone, taking his toothbrush, shaving pack, and a couple other miscellaneous items.
"You know that couldn't be farther from the truth Billy." He said, sounding a bit annoyed.
"Well not by the looks of things. I mean," He shoved past Dom back into the room to continue his packing, "if you wanted him, why didnt you just say so?"
"Billy, listen. It wasn't what it looked like! You have to believe me."
"Bull shit Dominic. Complete bull. I have no reason to believe you. I gave you my heart, my soul, my everything. You were my everything and now look. Look what happened! How can I ever trust you again? I can't. I just can't." Billy sighed, zipping up his duffel bag.
"Billy, can't you just hear me out! Elijah and I were..."
Billy interrupted him, "Don't say it Dom. Please don't even say another word. I don't think I could bear to hear it, it's bad enough I had to witness it with my own eyes."
A single tear ran down his cheek and he quickly wiped it away, "I'm leaving, for at least a couple days. Don't call, I don't even know what to say to you. I can't even look at you because I feel so...so...," He swatted away the oncoming tears, "Just forget it, I'll see you later."
He threw the bag over his shoulder and walked past Dom, but Dom grabbed his arm before he could successfully evade him.
"Bill, don't do this, I love you. More than life itself, I love you."
"I'm sure." Billy said, and without a word he was gone.
Dom heard the door close and his car pull out and the world crumbled about him.
*******
With a long moan, Billy awake from his slumber. He rubbed his eyes and blinked a few times, his surrondings coming into focus. He sat up and looked around the rather boring hotel room and sighed heavily. No matter how much he didn't want to admit it, he missed Dom. He wanted to push the events of the previous day from his head and did for the time being. He swung his feet over the side of the bed and stretched his arms. He looked over and noticed it was 2 in the afternoon.
"Good riddance," Billy complained.
A low rumble in his stomach told him he needed some food. A last stretch and he was out of bed, rummaging around for some clothes and he was off to the shower, ready to face the world.
******
Dom lazily threw his hand to the phone reciever next to his bed, the ring blasting through the morning.
"Hello?" He muttered, grogginess apparent.
"Dom? Did I wake you?" Elijahs high pitched voice sang through the phone.
"Yeah it's okay though, I need to get up. Ahh, what time is it?"
"Um, it's 2:30. How'd it go?" Elijah asked a bit leerily.
"Terrible, I'd rather not talk about. I gotta go, I'll call you later." He hung up before Elijah could respond.
A pang of guilt did hit him but he couldn't and didn't want to think about what had happened.
He sat up and reached for the phone again, this time dialing Billy...
*******
Billy dug his phone from his left pocket and gripped his phone tightly as he saw who it was.
He said through gritted teeth, "I thought I told him not to call."
He silenced the phone and slipped it back in his pocket without another thought of it. He turned the corner of the block and saw a quiet looking coffeeshop. A good place to relax, have some coffee and just think. He opened the door and bells rung above him. He saw a counter at the front of the store with an empty seat and flopped down. He let out a sigh and looked around curiously. He noticed a few people chatting ayily with one another but his attention was directly turned to the ringing of bells and a closing door. A beautiful girl had walked in. With flowing brown hair and hazel eyes, she stood with a grace of a swan. She looked around, obviously deciding where to sit and his heart skipped a beat when she took her place next to him.
He yelled at himself subconsciously, knowing it was just the man inside of him talking because he knew deep down Dom was his, but he wasn't in the position to want to admit it, so he figured he might as well have some fun while he could. But before he got a chance to charm the woman, a waitress appeared in front of him behind the counter he was sitting at.
"Can I help you?" The woman, who was a bit dumpy, had out a pad to write down his order.
"Yes, I'll have black coffee and umm...," He squinted at the menu that was above his head, "I'll just have a plain bagel with cream cheese."
She jotted down his order and informed him it'd be right out, moving on to the woman next to him. He played with the sugar dispenser as the woman took her order and disappeared behind two swinging doors. He looked out of the corner of his eyes and noticed she was fidgeting with her napkin.
Billy cleared his throat, "Hi there."
She looked over in a surprise and her eyes dazzled him, "Hey. I'm Kristen."
She held out her hand eagerly, and he gladly shook it.
"Billy. I'm Billy."
"It's nice to meet you Billy," she returned to her napkin.
Billy smiled, he found himself a shy girl.
"Are you from around here?" He asked, trying to strike up a conversation.
"Yeah, I've lived in L.A. my whole life. Spoiled L.A. brat." She smiled.
Beautiful smile, he noted.
"But it sounds to me like your not from around here, huh?"
He half grinned and hlaf blushed, "No, I'm Scottish. I moved here with my....roomate."
He barely noticed the arrival of his coffee and bagel and waved off the waitress with a weak thanks, trying to keep conversation with his new friend. He felt bad deep down, knowing it this was nothing but his attraction got the better of him.
*******
Jangling keys sounded in Dom's palm. He was out and about today, it was so nice outside. Clear, blue skies and the sun not beating down too harshly. Dom was spending his day shopping, a good way to get his mind off current events and relax a bit.
After locking his car, he shoved the keys into his pocket and strolled casually down the street. With a dry swallow in his throat, he decided it was time for a little something for his thirst. He looked up and down the street, hands on his hips. He wasn't familiar with the area and didn't know anywhere to eat. He squinted up the road and noticed a small cafe on the corner and walked in that direction.
He passed by and looked into the glass window at the people happily sitting down inside. He scanned through the people at the tables and booths until his eyes met a sight he would have never dreamed possible. There was Billy, more beautiful than ever, eyes glowing a clear green, looking as if nothing had gone wrong. And then it felt like clouds, dark and damp, had clouded his mind. A girl, who was also attractive, sitting next to Billy. With hurt eyes, he observed from afar and he could tell they were enjoying themselves.
Jealousy surfaced through Dom's body, even though he resented the feeling. Billy had a right to be mad and see whom ever he wanted, but so soon? By the close contact and playful hitting, he could tell flirting was a major component of their conversation and his eyes darkened. There went his day. He didn't need to see anymore. Billy couldn't bare Dom anymore and he had moved on.
A tear threatened to pour over Dom's eye, stinging it. He sucked in a fresh breathe and turned away.
*******
For the first time in the past hour, Billy looked out towards the window to check the time. He mentally acknowledged it was almost 4 in the afternoon. But it was something else that had caught his attention, Dom.
Wide-eyed, he saw a sulking Dom turn away and walk with heavy shoulders out of sight.
Kristen must have seen the look of surprise and turned around too, "What's wrong?"
Feeling a bit embarrassed, he urged, "No, it's fine. I was just checking the time and it's already 4 o'clock! But go ahead, continue with your story."
Kristen continued on with what she was saying but Billy wasn't listening. His mind had wandered off into a daze.
Dom had seen him. Watched him, sitting here with another girl. He was surprised when a wide grin spread across his face and a large wave of satisfaction was about him. He felt good, like he had served Dom right. Dom deserved what he got, the filthy liar and cheater. He secretly hoped Dom would go home and weep. Just as Billy had done. Hell, he hoped Dom would be half as crushed as he was. He continued a grin as he turned his full attention back to Kristen.
*******
Billy could only stare at his front door. He wasn't completely sure he was emotionally prepared for what may happen. Going in there meant facing Dom. Facing Dom meant the heartbreak all over again, but he also needed to clean some clothes because stinking wasn't an option.
He bit the inside of his cheek, his internal conflict still teasing his mind. He knew it was know or never and he accepted that. He grabbed the duffel bag and headed to towards the house. He cautiously opened the door and it looked deserted. A light breeze blew threw the opened windows, shades sticking it them. He was relieved he wouldnt have anyone to deal with, for now at least. He maneuvered threw the hall, down to the laundry room and pushed open the door.
He found Dom, sitting on a chair, indulged in a magazine he was reading. His head jerked up at the opening of the door and they both drew in a sharp breath and Billy began to head out the door. Dom jumped from his seat and pulled Billy back by his upper arm.
"No Billy, don't go."
"Yes Dom, I am. I came to do laundry and thats it."
Dom swallowed hard, "Billy I know you have a new, um...thing with whoever but I still feel like I owe you an explanation at least."
The smug satisfaction returned to Billy. He had made Dom jealous, even if it was unintentional. It was nice to give him a taste of his own medicine, show him what being hurt felt like. But the look on his loves face was devastating and he had to be honest.
"Oh Dom, shut it. There's nothing going on with me and Kristen. We just met at that cafe and had a nice chat but you of all people should know that's not who I am." Billy said a bit icily.
This made Dom feel an ounce better, "Well I still owe you an explanation none the less."
This wasn't what Billy had in mind to talk about, "No Dom. I already told you! I came to do my laundry and thats it. Not hear some sorry excuse for you snogging Elijah."
He went to leave again but was jerked around by his wrists. Dom had grabbed them both tightly with his hands and pushed him against the wall, hands above his head. Dom had the minimum amount of pressure against him and Billy wriggled against his touch. This wasn't the postion Billy intended to be in.
"Bill. Listen to me. You want to, I know you do, too long have I known you and you wouldn't think any different. Please just hear me out for 5 minutes Billy. If you don't believe me, then fine. Be on your way and don't let the door hit you on the way out. But we have come too far for too long to let it go over this."
Billy grunted and fought against Dom's grip, "I don't want to listen to you."
Dom tightened his grip on Billy and leaned in no more than an inch from his face, speaking barely above a whisper.
"After you left Billy, Elijah and I got up for a drink. It was Elijah who suggested it but my poor judgement that lead me too far. He pulled out a bottle of Gin. A few slops here, a couple chugs there and we were beyond saving. And imagine this all happened in that little time you were gone. A few giggles and jokes lead to stuff that shouldn't have happened and I know that Billy. I understand and accept my mistake. I'm a grown man and shouldn't be thick enough to let alcohol impair my judgement to such extremes. But what scares me the most is that you would honestly think I would willingly put our love in jeopardy," A tear formed, "I've told you how much I loved you time and time again. We've been through too much to let it get thrown away over something so petty. I love you Bill. I love you more than words can say.."
Billy couldn't take it. The ache in his heart was too grand. The relief, the love and the compassion for dom over took him and he met Doms lips in a kiss. He could taste the salt from his tears on his lips and Billy too cried, for nothing but pure joy. He finally had Dom back in his arms. He pushed Dom towards the washer machine and he withdrew from the kiss.
He said in between kisses from his mouth, to his ear and down his neck, "I'm sorry I was such a prat. I love you dearly. I'm sorry baby, forgive me."
"Just shut up and kiss me Billy."
