Beautiful, really beautiful. And it fits in this part of the world (though Tekapo is much more gorgeous than Te Anau). For future reference and with no disrespect intended, the plural of Maori and Pakeha are just that (just like sheep) and it is extremely rare for temperatures to get that hot. But the rainy weather is bang on - have you heard about the flooding etc here lately???

Oh my gosh -- you're from NZ? And my story passed muster? Obviously I've never been, but I did research myself silly -- and fell in love with the place in the process. Now I really really really want to visit.

I'll make the correction to "Pakeha" as soon as I can find it. Please don't ever hesitate to let me know about a typo or factual error! I really appreciate hearing from people.

As far as the temperatures and rain -- I was trying to extrapolate twenty years from now, and figured the weather can only get hotter and wetter (thanks in part to my own government, may they suffer the consequences) (I'm an American, in case you can't tell). So no, I hadn't heard about the flooding; it was just part of imagining the future. What a coincidence, though.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story, and I'm especially pleased because I was writing so intimately about a place I've never seen. Thank you very much!

You must visit! Seriously coming down here is worth the massively long plane trip. I live in Auckland, which isn't the most inspiring part of NZ but even here there are pockets of nature and beautiful beaches/native bush less than 20mins away.

And one can only hope that more Pakeha here become interested in returning to the land's Maori roots.

I would love to go. My dear friend empress_wu visited for three weeks, during the ROTK premiere last December, and she loved it. (That's actually why I dedicated it to her; in the hopes we could go together some day.)

And one can only hope that more Pakeha here become interested in returning to the land's Maori roots.

That's very big where I live (north of San Francisco) -- returning to native plants. Obviously, that gave me the idea. I hope it catches on, too; I'm a big believer in the movement.
