Summary: Elijah gets a break from New York for two weeks, and he and Dom form a morning schedule...
Dedication: To [livejournal.com profile] ravensgurl211 because she has stuck by me and has been reading my stuff for a couple years now, for god knows what reason.
Note: This is my first fic contribution to this list..hmm..hope it doesn't suck. ><

They had formed a schedule almost, since Elijah had arrived back home from New York for a well-needed break from taping for a week or two. Elijah would wake up, get showered and dressed, get coffee, and drive to Dom's pad, where he would lure his friend out of bed with promises of it being very late in the day, even when it was usually only ten in the morning. Dom would nearly always fall for it, because he had yet to bother to buy a clock for his room, and would grumpily stagger out, half undressed, and plop down on the couch, where Elijah put the coffee. He would sip it gingerly and turn on the TV, only to find himself staring at morning programming. A couple minutes of what Dom called 'the British temper' would spew out of his mouth as he cursed Elijah for tricking him into getting up before noon, and after half a cup of the coffee was gone, he would take a shower and Elijah would entertain himself until Dom came out of the bathroom.

After taking the shower Dom would mumble an apology for saying about half the bad words in the British-American vocabulary during his complaining about the morning wake up call and sipped down the rest of the coffee. He would be more awake then, fresher, and obviously clad in more clothes then the usual boxers he would wear in bed. Elijah had noticed in the week of doing this schedule that Dom had the biggest collection of odd boxers ever, not that he was looking at that part of Dom's body on purpose - his eyes just tended to wander down, and then up and down again, which, if Dom was a girl, would probably be considered a true 'checking out' sort of glance. It was Dom though, and Elijah decided that he was just trying to find something to tease his friend about, like how he was getting a bit of a tummy from being such a lazy bum, even if he could continue that thought by realizing that he almost found that to be cute.

Dom would sit next to him, in his very casual clothing, and either be content to watch the television or, if he was in a more 'manly' mood, would challenge Elijah to a video game duel. And, in pure 'manly' fashion, they would play Tetris, which was the only game Dom had as Elijah's sister Hannah had bet him two weeks before that he could live without video games for a month. She had not taken Tetris because he hid it, and she didn't realized that he had an extra system from some party he went to that celebrated the making of some video game that ended up not even being that great. Dom did not know Elijah knew of this bet, and Elijah was very amused to listening to his daily reasoning of why he kept picking the game over all his others for their competition. Dom usually went with the excuse that it was the game he was sure he could always win in, even though he would lose nearly every game he played. Sometimes Elijah would feel bad and let him win, and he would act like he won some great award, only to be disappointed when the win didn't repeat itself.

Elijah was usually reminded of when he asked Dom to move to LA during that time when they played video games. Elijah had instantly started missing that the minute he and Dom went their separate ways, and it was only a matter of time for him to make an almost desperate plea for Dom to come move to the States. Dom thought he was joking, but he was very serious. He could not afford to keep going to England whenever he wanted to see his best friend. Dom had been surprised at the offer, and Elijah had been surprised when Dom agreed to do it, stating that it probably would be for his own good anyway, because he would be closer to Hollywood. Elijah ignored the hurt feelings that came up when Dom did not agree to come because he wanted to be closer to him and acted as though that was what he meant by offering his pad all along, to help Dom with his career. He decided that, in fact, he had no alternative motives at all after he convinced himself.

After a while of doing nothing, Dom would always end up offering cereal, which he had mass quantities of. Elijah always wondered why Dom always had so many on hand. Billy had told him that Dom just never was allowed cereal when he was younger. Viggo just laughed and said that he probably just liked cereal - the simplest reason, of course. But Orli said that Dom liked using it as some kind of sex-erotica thing, which he was going to explain further until Elijah stopped him because he really didn't want to hear anything that would traumatize him for life and make him never want to eat cereal again. Undoubtedly, Orli was probably going to tell him a story about something he did with someone and replace his name with Dom's because he always seemed to be very happy to share any stories at any time. If they were true or not was the question, and Elijah was not about to ask because his elf friend might have proof that he again would not want to see. For whatever reason, he always had cereal and Elijah always took a bowl even though he had already eaten. One time though, when he took a bowl of Fruit Loops, he got a horrible mental image of Orli doing something to someone with them and from then on tried to never look at that box in particular because something about it seemed more sex-driven then most of the other cereals.

Usually they talked about nothing, because it was morning and no news ever happened then. Apparently Dom's social life never did improve, which mimicked Elijah's because he never really went out either. And Dom would always act surprised when Elijah said that he did nothing the night before, as though Elijah had been some party animal turned couch potato. In fact, Dom was always more the partier. It almost hurt to image Dom all alone during the evening hours, especially because in New Zealand the guy talked to random strangers all the time and had no problem making friends. Elijah almost felt responsible for Dom being lonely, though Dom never once blamed anything on him. He wasn't the type of person to do that, ever, which was one of the reasons Elijah liked the guy so much. He never once acted like he was unhappy even though he most likely was. He would just grin and laugh and say that he had quality time with himself and his voices, and Elijah would laugh, regardless of how sad that notion was.

And then Elijah would had to leave, because he still had things to do, but each day he wanted to stay longer and longer because it felt very comforting and familiar to be in the presence of his best friend. In fact, as the days withered down, he felt as though he could stay there forever and be contented. Each day he stayed progressively longer until he leveled out at leaving around 2:30 in the afternoon, which was basically half his day spent doing nothing. It was the most fulfilling nothing he ever found himself doing.

Elijah learned a lot about Dom through these morning meetings. Dom always slept on his back. It was nearly impossible to wake him up, unless you lied to him, as stated before, or went for his two ticklish weak spots, which was what Elijah did when lying didn't work. They were under his chin or just above his navel - though there were perhaps more but he found no need to go any lower. He would hit them both at the same time and he would instantly writhe and let out a gasped laugh and turn over on his side, covering his body with the blankets (which, of course, were always off his body by the time Elijah came in, which lead him to believe Dom thrashed a lot as well in his sleep) that were near him, burying himself in it. He would hear a couple of words in German come from underneath the blankets, all derogatory in meaning, and all directed at him. He was quite sure Dom knew that Elijah understood every word that was spoken in the language, because Dom had said the phrases nearly every time he awoke Dom in that fashion, in New Zealand and otherwise. He said it to people that wasn't Elijah who woke him up in that fashion. In fact, it was Billy that finally got fed up with wondering what Dom kept calling everyone that he listened carefully one day and repeated it to someone he knew that spoke German.

The make-up artists had a hell of a time hiding the black and blue he got from being slugged in the face. Elijah just opted to ask Dom what the hell he was saying and the phrases were so bad he knew his foul-mouthed friend was not lying. And he still said it, even though now it was not as bad as it was when no one had a clue what he was saying. Either way, when Dom curled up, Elijah just needed to give one gentle shove to watch him tumble off the bed and onto the ground. After all, Dom also always slept on one side of the bed, so when he rolled over he was on the precipice of the mattress. And Dom would get up, grumbling, rubbing his head, and would continue on in the same fashion he would if he had fallen for Elijah's lie about the time.

He also noticed that Dom nearly always smelled like some kind of cologne, which apparently was embedded into his skin or something because it was always there. Even after he showered it could be smelled. He never could find the bottle of the stuff, because Elijah always thought it smelled very good. He wasn't about to ask Dom about it either, considering he would probably get a cheeky question like 'Have you been sniffing me a lot while I'm not looking, then?', which would cause Elijah to wonder if he was, which would also cause some kind of blushing spell that he would never feel like explaining. Any reaction like that would be one that Dom would never allow him to live down, and would forever go around telling people that he sniffed people for his own jollies and he would have a lot of explaining to do because somehow, even with the millions of lies Dom has said in the past, everyone ended up believing him.

And Elijah would probably forgive him because he would give the sad puppy look with his bottom lip protruding and his eyes seeming to plead wordlessly for forgiveness and it always worked. Elijah would do that same look when Dom woke up using either method, and Dom would usually tell him to stop making the fish look. He tried changing it up but it still never got to the level of adorableness that Dom got it to. In fact, it was so adorable that Elijah usually gave in quickly more because he got a couple of weird thoughts going through his mind then anything else. He wondered if Dom knew what his actions did to Elijah sometimes, and he had drawn the conclusion that his friend definitely did and loved every minute of it. Perhaps he did not know exactly what the feelings were, but he knew had to push buttons to get them started. He didn't do it to be malicious, no - he did it because he was Dom and Dom could murder and still probably be adored.

The funniest thing Elijah started to notice was Dom's odd habit of singing in the shower, which Elijah had only heard because he passed by the door during the third day of doing the schedule and heard Dom very lowly singing some song he didn't recognize. He had heard Dom before singing, but it was always to the music that played in the trailer while getting their make-up done for the movie's taping and none of the music really had too many songs to show vocal talent. He was singing something softer, lighter, and Elijah found himself hovering for a good minute listening to his voice go between octaves, and only stopped listening because he worried Dom would find him standing outside the bathroom with an ear to the door. He would have teased Dom about it but instead kept mum and from that day forward always found a reason to pass by the bathroom to hear a couple verses - an action always done unconsciously because he would never up front admit to himself that he wanted to listen to Dom sing. That was just strange.

The last day of being able to wake up and visit Dom came far too soon, and he would be leaving the morning after, and Elijah's moods dampened considerably as he realized he could not wake up and do this carefully made schedule that for some reason was the highlight of his day. He didn't know why Dom could manage to brighten his mood, especially considering the first hour or so he was watching his friend stagger around like a zombie. He just knew he was not looking forward to taping again and not seeing his friend for another month or so. There was something comfortable about the whole situation that would definitely be missed when it wasn't done. Elijah would never say anything though because he knew Dom would laugh and tease him and possibly think he was joking. Of course, in pure bad luck fashion, he ended up waking up late that morning, nearly an hour later then usual. He snapped up and instantly started rushing to get ready.

And he rushed to get the coffee, and he rushed driving there, and he nearly barreled over some poor old lady crossing his path and did not even stop to apologize, even though he did feel bad about how she almost fell over. He slipped into the apartment panting and heaving for air. But it was worth it, because, glancing at the clock, he realized he had gotten there in less then a half hour when usually it took him forty-five minutes. He composed himself and put the coffee down and made his way to the bedroom. He entered and saw Dom still lying prone on his bed. He walked over, leaning down to shake him awake, but found he was already staring up at him.

"You're awake?" he had asked, sounding surprised. And Dom just nodded before sitting up.

"You're late." Dom replied, and Elijah realized in only a couple seconds after he spoke that he almost sounded a little hurt. "Thought you weren't dropping by."

"Sorry, I didn't mean to sleep late." He apologized, regarding Dom with an equally apologetic look. "Since when does your inner clock wake you up this early, anyway?"

"When my outer clock wakes me." Which was when Dom motioned to a nearly unseen clock by his bedside.

"You finally bought one?"

Dom laughed, though sounding a bit bitter. "Had one, mate. Way before you started your wake-up calls."

"Then why did you say you didn't?"

"'Coz I rather would have been awoken by you, in all honesty."

And the subject was dropped, even though the words echoed in his head and were twisting themselves into perhaps more then they should have meant. Dom got up, as always, only he went into the shower immediately. Elijah just went and sat on the couch and sipped his coffee and pretended not to be disappointed that things weren't going so smoothly for the last day of seeing him for a while. And Dom was in even less of a good mood then usual, which did not help things. When Dom came out, he plopped next to Elijah and they just sat in silence for a while. Uncomfortable silence.

"I don't want you to leave."

And Elijah just blinked, dumbly, like he didn't understand what Dom meant. Of course he knew what Dom was talking about. Him. Leaving on a plane to New York. Leaving Dom again to be alone. And Dom still wasn't blaming him, but making a general statement of at least what had been bothering him. What had been bothering both of them, even, Elijah included, because the topic weighed heavily in his mind since the second week started and he started remembering how much being in the company of Dom put him in a good mood that no one but he could put him in. There was no scruffy German-British actor on the new set that smelled of cologne and sang in the shower and made Elijah feel good with just one glance, even when he was being cursed at in German or glared at in a half asleep stupor. There were a million very coherent thoughts flashing through his head in which he could have used to reply with, but instead took the road of one word idiocy.

"Oh."

Oh. Oh. Even Elijah had gotten mad at himself when the word slipped out of his mouth. And if he got mad at himself, Dom was probably about twenty times worse. And he was, not surprisingly. Dom stood up, his body language screaming a man trying to control his temper and failing miserably. He didn't turn around, just silently walked to the window near the couch and stared outside. He was muttering to himself, in English but hardly intelligible at the volume he was saying it. So Elijah got up and walked closer, sneaking almost for no real reason.

"Oh. He says bloody 'Oh'." Was the first thing he understood that came out of Dom's mouth. And it was a justifiable annoyance.

"I didn't mean to say it like that." Elijah managed to say. "It just slipped out. Dom..."

Dom did not answer.

"You know, you're not the only one who doesn't want to go."

Continued silence.

"God damn it, Dom, you should know you're the only reason why I love waking up."

There. He had said it. It was more of an admittance to himself then to Dom. He had no clue what he had meant by that, but it did make Dom turn around to give Elijah the 'What are you talking about?' look. Elijah continued to wonder himself, but knew enough that it was not a desperate plea to make Dom forgive him. He knew Dom would get over it if Elijah had left it at where he left it at before. He wanted to explain further, though. Desperately. And seeing Dom in that way was bringing up stuff he had been trying not to think about.

"What does that mean?" Dom finally asked, his eyes never leaving Elijah. Elijah felt the need to look at anything but the gaze.

"That means...I don't know." The truth. He didn't. He had no clue why he had said it. He knew it was the absolute truth, but he had no idea why. He couldn't really understand what he was feeling because he didn't understand what the feeling was. "There's always this overwhelming emptiness that comes with not being able to see you every day." Which was also true, and just about the only feeling he at least could put a name on.

"Fuck you, Elijah." Dom said in a burst of anger. "You're a fucking tease."

That was when Elijah got confused, and did not even fathom a guess of what Dom meant by that comment. Before he could ask, Dom continued to elaborate in a ranting manner.

"Comin' over every day, getting me used to seeing you every morning, getting me to like it. Look forward to it! And you don't even know what you do to me." Dom was nearly shouting. "And god, I hate you for that. I hate how you don't know what you can do to me by just being you!"

Dead silence. It was a hell of a time for Elijah to hear what he had just said. It did bring back every memory of what had been happening between them since he moved to LA. Since they met. All the weird things Elijah ignored and continued to ignore. Not anymore. No. He thought about them and realized that the feeling was almost certainly reciprocated if Elijah understood what Dom was saying. And there was a hefty amount of fear that rose, but for some reason it was not as bad as it probably should have been. It was Dom he was feeling it about, and Dom even made him calmer then he probably would have been without him and coming to what he figured was the conclusion.

"You sing in the shower." Elijah suddenly spoke. Dom raised a brow, still looking pissed.

"What?"

"You do. And you always smell like this cologne that I want to know the brand of." He took a step closer. "You always smile in your sleep, and are always on your back and to one side of the bed, which is why you always roll off the bed when I push you off. And even when you curse at me for waking you up, I still somehow feel amazingly great just being near you. When you were in England, and I invited you here, it wasn't because I wanted to help your career. I just missed you so much that I just couldn't take it anymore. And somehow, I know I should be weirded out by all of this, but I'm not." They were inches apart. "Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm not."

"Elijah, if you're doing this just to..."

But Elijah knew he wasn't just saying things to smooth things over, and he showed that by leaning in and giving just about the most awkward kiss he had even given. Again, a flurry of fear set in when he realized what that action meant inwardly, but he remained calm on the outside, just to stop Dom from thinking that Elijah had decided it was all a mistake. That was the farthest thing from his mind, that what had happened was a mistake.

"I don't want to leave either." Elijah said, lowly, out of breath for no reason.

"You better not be stringing me on, Lij." Dom seemed to search Elijah's face. "Because I'll never be able to forgive you if you are."

"You know I wouldn't do that to you."

Dom suddenly pulled Elijah into a deep kiss, which started off awkward but soon got passionate enough to be considered a true, real kiss that a couple would have. And Elijah felt light-headed, even a little giddy - because the more it went on, the more sure that he was doing the right thing. When they broke, Elijah leaned his body against Dom's and he pulled him into a tight hug.

"'Y'know what this means, don't you?" Dom finally said.

That everything was going to be different? That there was a part of Elijah that he had to come to terms with? That he loved Dom? "...It means you're going to have to come to New York with me."

Dom pulled away and gave Elijah a confused look for a moment before he broke into a smile. It was perhaps the answer to all their problems at that moment.

And in New York, Elijah always woke up at six in the morning locked against Dom, and Dom would wake up with him even though he didn't have to. He still muttered something in German, but it was a different phrase and said between kisses. He still never told Elijah what cologne he used, but sometimes he smelled it more strongly then usual. Dom bought the coffee, and Elijah attempted to sing whatever song Dom sang in the shower to tease his friend. And each time he came out Dom would say not to waste his breath, which proved he sat outside the bathroom door and listened. And Dom would still overstock them with cereal, and force him to eat some even though he would have better food on the set And he would leave and Dom would kiss him and each morning it got more and more deeper as they both got used to being that way with each other.

And, just like in LA, Elijah looked forward to each morning.

I loved it. I usually don't reply to the fics put on the communities O.o in fact...this might be my first response to this list, LOL. But...with this fic I couldn't help it.

I can totally see Dom rolling over and cursing the person who wakes him in German...and every time he woke up, I could totally see it. I loved your characterizations and details. That has to be the cutest thing ever. *laughs*

I LOVED it, LOL. I think this one will have to be one of the printed up and stored fics...

I'm digging this. It's really very good. Ergh. I'm not good at giving creative criticism, but I can tell you that it is wonderful and I am looking forward to more of your writing. x_x
